May 11, 2012 – Junior golfers ages 6-18 wishing to participate in the Southern Texas PGA’s summer 2012 Junior Tour, Junior Links Tour and Little Linksters programs may now register online at www.stpgajuniorgolf.com.
A new series of tournaments dubbed the “Prestige Tour” has been added to the STPGA’s offerings for 2012. The new series is available to youngsters ages 10-18 and has been created to provide advanced juniors the opportunity to compete at a high level on several of southern Texas’ premier golf courses.
All three programs operate throughout southern Texas and are administered through seven “metro areas”— Austin, Beaumont, Bryan/College Station, Corpus Christi, Houston, the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio.
The membership fee for the STPGA Junior Golf program is $80. Tournament entry fees vary from $16 to $150, depending upon the segment of the program, the area in which the tournament is held and the length of the tournament.
Also new for 2012, the Southern Texas PGA has joined forces with three of Texas' other most prominent golf organizations to create new opportunities for the state's junior golfers. More details about the Texas Junior Golf Alliance can be found here.
Details about the 2012 programs are as follows:

Eagle
Pointe's rolling terrain and multi-level tees, and especially its commitment to
higher eduction and Junior Golf, has "elevated" the game in the Houston
area.
If you've been playing golf in the Houston area for very long—or ever,
actually—you know that the typical golf course is "Texas-flat," with the
practice tee often the highest point on the property. There is certainly
nothing wrong with that, as some of the most renowned courses in the state have
that very same characteristic. But Eagle Pointe Golf Club, located less than 35
minutes from downtown Houston off I-10, is not a "typical" golf course.
Designed by noted Houston architect Rick Forester, the pride of the Mont Belvieu
community attracts players from across the region who wish to play the game in
three dimensions on it rolling fairways and dramatic elevation changes of up to
40 feet. Forester has "un-leveled the playing field" at Eagle Pointe, and the
result is a 4-Star rating from the Houston Chronicle and "must-play" status for
golfers of every level of ability.
Strategically placed bunkering and exceptionally penal water hazards
direct play through towering stands of mature pines, which, when combined with
the secluded, peaceful atmosphere of the par-71 track—there are no homes on
17 of the 18 holes—and its steeply tilted, undulating greens, more resembles
the Sandhills of South Carolina than the heart of Southeast Texas.
