Eagle Pointe Golf Club - Worth the Drive to Houston’s Must-Play Course

Every golf course likes to tell you how different it is. But how many Houston-area courses have 40-foot elevation changes, are secluded within a thick pine forest and also have a recreation center and spectacular wave pool on-site?

Eagle Pointe Golf Club is located in Mont Belvieu, less than 35 minutes from downtown Houston off I-10, Eagle Pointe’s par-71 layout from Houston’s own Rick Forester features rolling fairways between stunningly tall pines, elevation changes that will surprise you and plenty of water to deal with from Cherry Point Gully, the Old River and multiple waterfalls and ponds. Many of the greens are steeply tilted, some are quite undulating, and all of them are very quick at Eagle Pointe, leading to Rule #1 of playing the course successfully—don’t be above the hole. The four finishing holes make for a grand finale. The 15th is the toughest par-3, with a two-tiered green and huge bunkers right and left.

The long par-4 16th brings a creek, a pond and a waterfall into play with a smallish, deep-but-narrow green to negotiate. The par-5 17th offers a chance to steal a birdie if you don’t fall victim to the heavy bunkering around the green, and the par-4 18th requires not one, but two shots over water to a well-protected green.

A full-scale, practice area is available for warming up or taking an all-important lesson from Eagle Pointe’s professional staff.
